How to Increase Followers on Twitter?

Now that you have a Twitter account, you must have followed a lot of people but might be finding it difficult to add your own followers once your email contact list depletes. How do you then proceed about increasing followers on your Twitter account? The simple answer - start talking!

Go to search.twitter.com and type in some of your favorite keywords. The Twitter search is real-time and you will instantly see a bunch of people tweeting about your chosen topic. If you like a topic, go to the person's homepage and spend a while to make sure you would like to respond. And then, send a reply. In most of the cases, if you sent a good, useful and thoughtful remark, the person will respond and most probably start following you as a matter of courtesy or simply because he/she is interested in you. Do that for a while and you will slowly but definitely have an increasing number of followers every day.

A near perfect way of increasing followers is to write a blog. You can then tweet about the blog and respond to issues in the blog on Twitter. Writing a blog *is* difficult but you should begin writing one. To start, here is a fifteen second pitch from the blogging guru Seth Godin that should titillate you to create your first post rightaway.

A note of caution. After a while, Tweeting might just be too addictive and I won't be surprised if you do become one. Just set aside half an hour a day to tweet and respond and that should help you network, learn and develop without much sacrifice. Now start the search!
